Privacy Policy for Orbit

Orbit ("we", "our", or "us") is dedicated to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Orbit handles your information when you use our desktop application and its Google Drive backup features.

1. Data Collection and Storage

Orbit is an offline-first desktop application. Your notes, study data, music metadata, and settings are stored locally on your device (specifically in your AppData directory).

Orbit does not collect personal information, analytics data, crash reports, telemetry, or usage statistics. Any Google Drive related details(such as authentication tokens) fetched are kept within your device only.

We (the developers) do not collect, transmit, sell, or store any of your personal data on our own or any other servers. We have no access to the content you create or manage within Orbit.

2. Google User Data and Permissions

Orbit integrates with Google Drive API solely to provide a backup and restore functionality. If you choose to connect your Google account, Orbit uses the following permissions:

• drive.file: This scope allows Orbit to view and manage only the specific files and folders that Orbit itself has created in your Google Drive. We cannot access your other personal files, photos, or documents stored in Drive.
• userinfo.email: This scope allows Orbit to see your primary Google Account email address. Orbit identifies the connected Google Drive account by its Email ID. This is used solely to identify your account for backup/restore operations and is never shared with third parties. Your email address is kept within your device only.

How Orbit uses your Google Data:

• Backups: Your app data such as notes and settings is compressed into a backup file and uploaded to a dedicated folder ("Orbit Backup") in your Google Drive.
• Restoration: Orbit reads the backup files from this specific folder to restore your data upon your request.
• No Sharing: Orbit does not share your Google User Data with any third parties, advertising tools, or analytics services. The connection is direct between your local device and Google's servers.
• Access Limitation: Orbit only accesses Google Drive files and folders that it creates and never accesses other files in your account.
• Policy Compliance: Orbit's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Orbit does not display ads and does not use third-party analytics or tracking services.

3. Data Retention and Deletion

Since your data is stored locally on your device and in your own personal Google Drive, you retain full ownership and control. You can delete your local data by clearing the app's cache or uninstalling the application. You can delete your cloud backups at any time directly through the Google Drive interface.

Orbit does not retain any user data on developer-controlled servers. Therefore, there is no user data for us to delete upon request.

4. Security

All data transfers between Orbit and Google Drive occur over secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS) managed by Google's API standards. Orbit does not store your Google password; authentication is handled securely via Google's OAuth 2.0 protocol.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
